Full House Remodel               Previous          Next

This project grew out of the client’s opportunity to purchase a partially completed structure adjacent to their horse ranch. Conceptual design plans verified that a suitable build out of the existing shell would very nicely meet the client’s requirements.

The design challenges to be overcome included:

  • Using existing building envelope with existing windows and floor levels.
  • Mitigating the impact of a very high vaulted ceiling and oversized brick fireplace and exposed chimney.
  • Improper structural support for the upper floor level.

An open beam design supports the upper floor level and minimizes the vaulting effect of the high ceiling and the overbearing chimney.  A circular stairway from the dining area, provides access to the client’s favorite area – a large deck overlooking their private lake and wooded area.

An open floor plan design allows smooth transition between the Kitchen, Dining, and Living areas and convenient access to the upper and lower levels.

A split stairway acts as a main floor centerpiece and provides access to separate bedroom suites on the upper floor.

Open beam ceiling provides cozy library area separate but easily accessible from the main living space.
